Problems with downloading Sins of Solar Empire

By Posted November 6, 2009 20:12:56

Hi,

I've had repeated problems tonight (about 15 attempts and counting) to re-download Sins tonight.  I've even taken the link from the error log, downloaded it in chrome (much slower which makes me think the impulse client might use multiple offset http gets to work) and renamed it, put it in the correctory and it still errors.  Can anyone please help?

From the error logs:

I would have tried contacting support but the support link sends me only to a page about recovering my account details and not any way of contacting stardock directly for help.
TIA

Incessant MD5 errors are usually due to either bad system memory or security applications interfering with the download. Please send us (support@stardock.com) your Impulse error log and startup/dxdiag info as detailed here: http://forums.stardock.com/341573

Hi,

Thanks for the info.  I'll try making sure the virus scanner is truly dead this time and try again.

Hi,

Thank you for your help that worked.  So FYI for people that use AVG Full, the instructions from AVG on disabling the software are not sufficient.  You need to completely and rapidly kill all it's pids in task manager (it can be done, they do respawn though) or kill the services in services.msc and anywhere else then reboot.  If anybody out that can provide a script that is sufficient to achieve this could you post it here?  I'll try to figure one out but I'm a linux guy myself.

Glad to hear it worked out. Better that it was just AVG and not bad system memory.
