FENCES: end of BETA testing

By Posted November 1, 2009 11:22:09

Today, Nov 1st, is end of FENCES beta testing period. On PC startup I'm told FENCES will run with reduced functionality, which includes not being able to place folders and files into fences.

When I downloaded FENCES, I spent a considerable amount of time reorganising my several desktops, creating FENCES and filling them with folders and files. (I have several User Accounts in Windows). There was an assumption that very soon, possibly right after after beta, that there would be a professional version of FENCES, therefore allowing continued use of FENCES features. But, I cannot see a paid-for version of FENCES available.

I am now in the uneneviable situation of having organised my desktops, but face the prospect of no further FENCES functionality. for how long I don't know. All new files and folders that belong to fences that I'v created, now have to reside outside of fences, thus completely destroying the FENCES concept. There is no point in having items that belong together some in a fence others outside of the fence.

Is someone going to sort this mess out? Thanks?

Fences 1.0 was released a while back which should not expire.

Indeed as Neil notes, v1.0 of Fences is now available and no longer expires. Thanks for participating in the beta

Hi. Well, I sorted it by running IMPULSE and getting the update that way. But for a while there I was panicking. Not being able to place items would have completely wrecked my desktops. Thing is, a lot, like me, will probably turn off IMPULSE starting at startup which led to the update not being cottened-on to. Well, all's well that ends well.

Just goes to show what a handy [and essential] proggy Fences really is....

The tray app is actually it's own separate application, Impulse Now.  It's a nice way of being updated when updates are available without having to load the whole of Impulse in the background.
