Its due in August... 1.2

By Posted October 6, 2009 12:34:53

In addition, version 1.2 is the next major milestone GPG is working on.  It’s due in August so that we can show it off at PAX where we also expect to be showing off the 2 new Demigods.

This isn't intended as a flame of Stardock or GPG. I'm just wondering what happened that caused such a lengthy delay of everything. I'm only curious because it hurts Demigod as a whole.

Am I the only one not excited about these 2 new Demigods? For some reason im convinced at least one of them is gunna fuck up the balance...just because everyone is bugging them so much about it and GPG will be concentrating on SupCom2 and not the balance of them. The Demon Assasin sounds like he could really mess balance up if GPG arent careful.

Of course its pointless to talk about balance before we even see them Just a bit worried, thats all. If they are highly unbalanced it could spell the end for Demigod.

I can't wait to see the Oculus lightening ball... all I can think about is the Chicken Walker's death ball in forged alliance. I agree though, I have a feeling one, if not both, new demigods will be slightly unbalanced in some way.

We are still working on the 2 new Demigods. Some of the effects were being wired up last night.

I don't have a timeframe bacuse I am not sure what else has to happen. I am sure VOs still probably need to be done.

Sorian, when you were not working for gpg, you were able to cook up those new Demigods mods yourself in 1 day.

I hereby volunteer to do the voiceover for Oculus:

"Where is everybody?"

"I can smell you, Unlcean Beast."

"BLASTOFF!!"

"MOOOOOOOOO!!"

"Come to Old Sparky!"

"Somebody please point me at the enemy."

Except that it was soon after decided to release v1.2 as a series of updates which has been occurring since.

I appreciate the responses from Sorian and Frogboy.

There hasn't been a compelling reason to go out of my way (since the start of that school thing and all...) to get my friends back together for Demigod. The 2 new guys were that reason I was looking for.

It just seems like this process is taking ages. I did not expect back in the summer to see 1.2 incomplete and still no new guys in October. The impression was the patch and the new guys would be a thing of the past by now.

October 8, 2009 16:04:02

The 2 new Demigods were never part of v1.2 so I'm not even sure what you're tlaking about.

I agree that the two new demigods are taking a lot longer than we'd like them to take.  But that has nothing to do with v1.2 which has been being delivered on with pretty regular updates.

No offense but it's posts like these that make me want to throw up my hands in despair.  The new Demigod overlay, for instance, is very cool and I pulled some of my top developers off of other projects to make sure this happened.  The replays are now in. There have been balance improvements.

As for the 2 new demigods, I don't know when they'll be done.  I know GPG is working on them and that we've gotten a build with the first pass of them in.

Don't get me wrong.  I'm glad of any improvement updates and I certainly haven't missed what's been done but unfortunately (and yes, it certainly sucks for the messengers, here), the new Demigods are a pretty big deal to a great many of us, especially since I'm sure many of us have been waiting for them since the game released.

Speaking for myself, I suppose it's my fault for taking the early chatter 6 months ago (or however long it's been now) about them being worked on to mean that they'd be ready to go relatively soon but for the people who have been aching for new content over most of the other features, the wait has gotten to be a bit of a nuisance.

But hey, you can't win with everyone and for my part, I don't realistically expect you (or GPG) to either.  It is what it is.

I apologize if I've presented a topic that makes you feel like updating Demigod is a thankless, hopeless affair. I have no desire to drive you off from the community again.

Everything that's being updated is great, I just feel what people are "really" waiting for is a content update, as in the new Demigods and potentially new items that have been mentioned. Sins shipped with waaaaaaay more content than Demigod did, so the issue of updating Sins was not nearly as pressing. And with Demigod's focus on multiplayer, it takes something to keep multiplayer going.

The only reason I post is because I care enough about the game to ask. We're talking about an update, that in my opinion, is a case where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Actually, I think the majority of us (maybe I'm wrong) WERE under the impression that 1.2 would have the new demigods... your quote in the OP seemed to tie the 2 together.  It seems that this in not the case based on your response.  I'd like to be crystal clear that I am thrilled that you got the overlay out (even as a beta) and that it appears to serve its purpose very well.  Thank you for prioritizing that and assigning some top devs to get it in place!  But what I'm not clear about, is the basic roadmap for demigod.  And I do apologize if its spelled out elsewhere and I missed it.  So, the next major milestone IS EXPECTED to be 1.2.  Is that correct?   Any realistic eta at this point or still too much work to call?  And 1.2 will NOT have the 2 new demigods with it.  Those dg's will be released together(?) at some future date (any estimate?).  Right now, you are getting internal builds of dg v1.2 from GPG.  Even a brief roadmap dev journal would be nice IMO just to clear things up.  But if not, I still think lots of people will benefit from the overlay.

No, I was able to get a model of Unclean Beast in the game in 1 day and got him to auto attack and use 1 ability. There were no effects to speak of, no voice overs, no balance, no skilltree, no lobby movie, no avatar movie, no ability icons, no lobby icons, no achievements, no backstory, no localization. Want me to keep going?

I think this shows why Blizzard is soo reluctant to give dates; things always take longer than expected.

They know better than us the trend of the online population right now.. I wouldn't worry about it not being worked on as fast as possible.

Thanks to frogboy and everyone else for continuing to work on it!

The frustration you see from normally constructive players is a direct result of knowing the build is out there but being unable to touch it.  Bacon unicorn in an unopenable box, etc..  If the bacon unicorn weren't so desirable we wouldn't be so negatively frantic about not being able to open the box.

It's worth considering the alternate approach of co-opting your player base - give them a beta build to play with and you'll keep them happy at the same time you use them to balance the inevitably OP/UP new DGs - it's interesting how quickly anger, frustration, and negativity disappear when people have something to feel useful about.

I personally don't want two more DGs I think more 3v3 maps, fixing my minions getting stuck on the cit, and the lobby overlays are all I need to continue enjoying this game..

You and about 14 other people. The game needs the combination of new maps and new demigods.

well once the gleam and shine wears off the 2 new demi's, you and your army can go back to forum whining... I pray the demon doesn't prove to be too unbalanced..

Demigod is a game where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This is because Demigod shipped with less content than usually expected in a full retail PC game developed by a legitimate studio. Demigod needs smoothing around all its rough edges, not just maps, or just demigods, or just interface.
