From the above it appears that I had no difficulty embedding this video however appearances can be deceiving.
Basically pretty much every video site you go to supplies an embed code but this hardly ever works directly. Often you have to hand edit the html yourself which for me can be a pain because I don't really know what I'm doing. Another issue is that sometimes once you have managed to embed a video it ends of messing up the rest of the thread.
For example I was unable to post the above using IE7. I tried pasting the embed code normally as well as using the "edit html source" button to no avail. In the normal case nothing is apparently saved and in the "edit html source" something is saved but it's munged.
I was able to post the above but only if I used FireFox and pasted it using the "edit html source" button. However that doesn't necessarily work all the time either because that's how it works if I try posting from home. If instead I try posting from work then it doesn't seem to matter if I use IE7 *or* FireFox, I pretty much get nothing.
But even if I finally get it to work then there are other issues that pop up that again can relate to which browser I happen to be using or whether I'm using said browser from home or work. In some cases the thread appears to be fine at any point prior to the embedded video but the reply including the video and beyond can't be seen. If I change browsers then perhaps I will be able to see replies following a video but their formatting will be messed up in some way or another.
I know there's some way to reliably and cleanly embed videos because I see posts that manage to do it but for me it's a crap shoot that often doesn't work at all and mostly when it does work there's still some kind of problem and only very rarely does it totally work.
Also even when it totally works there does seem to be some kind of bandwidth issue that seems to hang up playing the video particularly if the video includes a commerical as the above video does.
I know this is not a well documented problem because I cannot document the precise manner that I have problems in each particular circumstance but the bottom line is can someone tell me a clean and reliable way to embed video that actually works first time, every time regardless of browser?
