Window Blinds 6 [Might've Deleted Something In The Registry]

By Posted August 16, 2009 22:56:55

I ran a Trojan Removal program and ended up having to uninstall it & Window Blinds to get my computer working properly again (I'm pretty sure it accidentally removed something from the Window Blinds registry). Another program of mine stopped working as well(Hamachi, a P2P Networking program). But the issue was resolved upon reinstallation (It reset the registry values.) But when I tried to reinstall WB 6 it kept saying it needed to reboot(Use Additional Process didn't work). After reinstalling WB 6 3 times I decided I should see if anyone on here would be able to help.

P.S.
I've used a registry cleaner, but it didn't resolve the issue.

Are we talking the trial version of WBs?

No, I purchased the program from stardock. I have an activation key.

A good tool to use would be the StarDock Zapper.

Link

After using it, make sure Impulse is uninstalled also and reboot.

Then, reinstall Impulse and reboot.

Now reinstall Windowblinds and reboot.

Then reinstall any additional software and reboot if instructed to do so.

Should solve your problem.

Thank you.
I'll try that.

I was really hoping your solution would work, but the Stardock Zapper keeps getting an error and isn't even uninstalling all the files.

what os?

32/64?

what error does the zapper give?

Have you tried restoring your system to a time before you had the problem?

I would try that and then go about getting rid of the trojan another way.

NOD 32 would be the best way to get rid of "unwanted guests" imo....but do a good screen of your primary and any backups before reinstalling.

Really bizarre about the zapper. Revo uninstaller works very well, and is free, but remove only the registry values in bold, dark print.

If you've had to remove a trojan and you don't have a fairly recent (but prior to infection) system backup.......

I suggest you re-install your OS, let it format your disk and start from scratch. Windowblinds is likely not the only program to have issues and the others may not manifiest themselves until some critical point down the road.

I was really hoping your solution would work, but the Stardock Zapper keeps getting an error and isn't even uninstalling all the files.

With the removal tool and WindowBlinds, the tool will need to be run as admin, and WindowBlinds will need to not have a theme applied or have the WindowBlinds service stopped.
