A quick comment on life and death magic

By Posted July 25, 2009 16:16:00

In Elemental, there are two types of mana that are not held within shards: Life and Death magic.

Life magic makes use of the energies created by living things.

Death magic takes something that is living and harvests the energies created from the transition from life to death.

The reason why the lands of the Empires look so mangled is because the natural ecosystems in their territories have been totally perverted.

Men can choose to take the path of death magic just as Fallen can choose the path of life magic.  But the pre-made factions are based on the game's lore (canon) and only the men of Krax have taken the path of death magic and part of that is because it was an adapt or die situation during the final days of the war of the Titans (that led to the cataclysm).

Are Krax playable? I don't remember them being listed in the list of the faction names a while back.

I am 99% sure that every faction will be playable. Or do you mean in the campeighn? That I'm not sure about, but I doubt it: the GC2 campeighn only had one playable faction. This could easily change, however....

hmm, in Darkodinplus's post there is another symbol with which I am not familar. It is on what appears to be a BLACK mana bar. If it were not for the discovery of the gold version of the life symbol I would have assumed that black mana's symbol to be the death symbol. That entire menu looks a bit more 'death magic' than the others.

The symbol in question is most likely the symbol for Death magic. I am now almost 90% convinced that the Black Rune means "Magic" in general".

I'd have to say that it is:

Life Death

Water Fire Air Earth

But, I think life should be whitish (or else forest green), and earth should be more brown, with more "MMMM" symbols like mountains.  They're pretty unclear as it stands.

still can't decide which one is air and which is Earth! As soon as I settle on one of them, I noticwe some tiny feature of the other that swings the balence back again........ gurrently I think the green one is air, but the brown shard pic looks "airier"..... I can help you there.

Yellow is air.
Green is earth.
Red is fire.
Blue is water.

Just look at the image names.

my goal of the question (because I already know it is not on the list of factions given to us by Frogboy a while back) was to bring up the fact that this was... well, a faction not on the list.   I'm not really sure what else to say...  The land in which the faction apparently resides is on the world map.  There are more than 12 factions on the map, but its been hammared into us that "this game has 12 factions"

Actually, if you compare the world map with the faction list, you'll find a huge disparity. Five of the Kingdoms have territories named after them. None of the Empires have corresponding territories, and there are lots of territories with names that don't fit either. Then there are places like the "wastes" which seem like they might not be habited at all...

It is interesting that the Krax aren't even on the list of factions, though (although there is a "Kraxis" territory on the map!).

Perhaps he hanged the spelling...... Calax.... Krax..... I could see them actually being the same..... remember, stuff can still change....

The Kingdom of Luckmania isn't on that list either, it doesn't mean it won't make the game.
(Hey, the Bear crusade is kinda over, I need a new thing)

It would be neat if the top fan contributers got some sort of in game feature in the final version.  Our names listed in default name generators for example.  the city of Luckmania, or the Spear of Spartan for example (I believe those are the top in karma rank)

Haha, way to pretend you don't have more karma than Luckmann.

If Denryu were in the game (either modded or in the canon) I would want a midnight blue dragon with a lightning bolt breath weapon. Denryu is Japanese for electric dragon and he is my totem. If I had ANY clue about making 3-D items i woudl spend MANY hours to put him in game. [e digicons]^_^[/e]

The Scouting Dog: six feet tall at the shoulder, and with teeth to match.

NTJedi Writes: Hopefully what we see is a river of lava... or if it's blood that's okay as well because than it means we'll most likely have lava as well.

I actually would rather not see lava as default terrein for Death factions: volcanic wastes are not suitable for much habitation (although the soil further away is good for farming), and the sort of creatures that live there are not what I would think of as belonging to a "perverted" ecology.

I never said the lava was the default terrain for the Death factions or any factions.  Purely that we'd have lava as one of the terrain types.
