Discolored Icons in my ObjectBar

Icons I have created in Fireworks/Photoshop are not displaying properly

By Posted July 8, 2009 17:37:31

I have created some 22x22 icons, first in Fireworks, where they are exported as GIF's with an alpha channel (so non-colored elements won't be rendered). This GIF is then taken into Photoshop where I save it as an ICO file. Then, I use this ICO file in my objectbar elements, wherein they appear miscolored as in the example below:

An example of what is wrong

The letter images are supposed to be white. The black-area is supposed to be clear so it sits inside the circle and looks more appropriate.

I presume there is some detail within the ICO file that has to be corrected, however, I cannot find any relevant documentation. Do any of you know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Matt Warren

I'm probably not the best person to answer but, try using png instead of gif ans see if the transparency converts better. You could also try using Icondeveloper to create the icon file from the png.

Does OB support PNGs?  Or ICOs?

Try BMPs with magic pink as the background.

Thanks for the help, guys.

Lantec's answer worked for me. Thanks so much! It's nice to be using a program that plays nicely with PNG files, since that's my preferred format for imagework.

Once I opened the PNG, then saved the ICO from IconDeveloper, I had no problem at all. I can cut Photoshop right out of the equation.

Glad I was wrong.
