Miscounted and unaccessible replies to a thread

By Posted June 3, 2009 08:56:00

Check out the Signature thread http://forums.galciv2.com/354479. I examined it from both GalCiv2 as well as JU and in the recent posts lists on both sites it's listed as having only 3 replies where in fact it has more than 25.

More than that there is no indication that the thread even has a second page nor is there anyway to directly access that page. The only way that I was able to see my reply was to manually add the "/page/2" string to the url to get the following link.

http://forums.galciv2.com/354479/page/2

This is the first time I've seen such behaviour. Although new replies aren't counted, the last replier and the time of the last reply are both listed correctly in the recent posts list plus the "goto last reply" link in the recent posts list does take you to the last reply so that is at least one way to get to the second page even though there are otherwise no next page links in the thread.

Strange.

There is a page two to that thread. i have been trying to respond to that thread for some time, and no post seems to stay.

I'll check page 2 and see if my replies are there.

Yeah, there's a fairly lengthy discussion about it in the Forum Updates thread from yesterday, that's what broke it.

+1 karma for the temp fix.  Thanks, Mumblefratz.  [e digicons][/e]

Yeah, it seems to be a result of the forums update from yesterday. A lot of people are having similar problems.

EDIT: nvm, others have already posted. Stupid forum bug didn't show any of that

There are other threads where replies are missing as well.

The "Race modding questions" thread in the Modding forum was replied to at least 3 times, yet when I go to it I see only the OP.

Clearly, this 'new and improved' web site needs some help.

I am seeing the same thing here on WC.  Although I have added a post which should be on page 2, only page 1 show up with no link to further pages.  The post count stands at 20 (with me being named last poster) in recent replies, but 25 are contained on page 1 with someone else being last poster there.

Strange orright. [e digicons]8C[/e]

Sorry, double post... the original did not show up despite my clicking the 'add reply' button... thought I was first responder cos neither did any others, then when I resubmitted my post appears twice, along with several before it that weren't visible to me before.

Weird!!! [e digicons]8(|[/e]

I see a 'normal' display for one of the threads where I had to manually add the /page to the URL. Hate to call one data point a confirmed fix, but it looks like you've got the problem under control.

Yep, seems to be working now.

I'm seeing odd behavior in IE7. Some threads (and only some) like this one show only the original post and do not display the replys or the reply window. It just abruptly ends mid way in the original post. But if I pull it up in Google Chrome or Firefox (I've never had this problem in Firefox) it will display just fine. The tread will probably fix itself eventually though too. Just FYI.

Edit: Forced refresh does not fix it [ctrl][f5]

That is because he is doing some heavy HTML, and may have copied it from Word or the like.  This usually breaks IE.  I'll see if he will edit it and remove the HTML.
