Metaverse down?

By Posted April 15, 2009 00:31:23

I started a metaverse game tonight about 7:15 CST, and finished and posted it about an hour later.  Then I've been trying to start another one since about 9pm.  I keep getting some error that the metaverse is returning some unknown reply (I forget the exact wording).

Any one else seeing this?

Quoting kryo, reply 15it has nothing to do with hardware or backups. The metaverse software is not behaving correctly. Moving it to other servers has caused trouble in the past, so the only option is to troubleshoot it in-place.
This is the type on information we should have been seeing a week ago. It would have prevented most of our rants. The more specific the explanation, the more likely we are to accept the situation and move along.

3) The metaverse cannot be transferred to another server, it must be repaired in-place.

Woops, Never admit weakness in public, it invites attack.  Applies in the prison yard, the dog pack, the press conference and the internet [e digicons]x_x[/e]

We thought we might propose the possibility of more reasoned behavior, that's all. We ease off a bit in exchange for stardock giving us a reasonable explanation of the metaverse server failure. So far, the have not. Rather than pick apart the apparent flaws in the explanation we have received, I am more than willing to wait and give them a chance to provide more information. After all (hint hint), we do not have a complete picture. Significant data is missing. I would also like to point out that it does not cost any of us money to sit here and type out complaints all day. It does, however, cost stardock to pay Kryo to answer these complaints rather than working on demigod. Therefore, there is a tangible benefit to stardock if they provide the requested information. In fact, I would not be at all suprised if one of the forum members were to come up with a brilliant solution that the sleep-deprived stardock employees may not have thought of. Another tangible benefit.

That or he could feild questions beyond stating the obvious to us (the MV is still down, we are workking on it).  His time could be spent elsewhere.  Why bother him with the gritty details, which may make him go bug the person attempting to fix the problem, thus slowing down getting the MV up and running.

Conspiracy theories aside...I'd like to point out to everyone in the northern hemisphere, it's spring time, go frolick in the grass and sun!  To those on the udder side of the Earth, enjoy the fall.

Ah, but by bugging Pat, Kryo learns about the problems and how to fix them, instantly doubling the number of people who know how the repair the MV server.

Grass is OK, sunlight tends to make my flesh disintegrate and blow away in the wind.

Hahaha,... oh you were serious?!?

I just got through mowing that grass you speak of. Maybe i should blame the MV being down for that too

While in theory that is good to pad one's resume and overall usefullness, sometimes people prefer to not how to do something so that they can enjoy a weekend off.

blame the MV

nooooooooo! Someone's going to see that and start a "Things We Can Blame on the Server Crash" thread! Ack!

In all seriousness, they probably need a weekend off at this point.

That's it for me today. I'm going to go hit golfballs!

I went fishing. It was a beautiful day here. Didn't catch anything but had a lovely day anyway.

Kind of like the puppy and the old hound.

Great analogy.  Later, when the owner wanted to go huntin', he needed the old hound.

Kryo.....thanks for your candor.

I'm sure Pat is dealing with code he didn't write, that has been patched and repatched and at this point has taken on the apperance of a dish of Chinese noodles.  However, if the logic behind the management decision not to have him working on this full-time is GC2 can be played without the MV, I ask SD to rethink this.  Without the MV feature I would not have made a recent second purchase of GC2 (UE).

On the other hand, if Pat is crucial to the stabilization of Demigod, in the words of Emily Litella, never mind.

Frolick in grass??? Seems like a waste to me......... [e digicons][/e]

I just bought the Uber Edition of GalCivII after pirating and absolutly loving Dark Avatar. I was kind of expecting to have fun with Metaverse only to realise it was down > . Of course I became pissed, nearly sending in a angry email before seeing this post.

With majority of publishers (I'm looking to you EA!) brushing off the fan's pleas for anwsers and getting to a fix eventually, I consider SD a god-send. Although that might be overstated a bit, SD has given a (somewhat) clear explaination of why the MV is down and what is happening to fix it. When SD gives us a little hint of an excuse, others would most likely give us the cold shoulder or a generic "STFU we are working on it!". I have seen MANY games like Demi-God where expectations are misjudged and things go wrong, SD is not the only one here people. Though I agree that problems with Demi-God should not drain into other games, I realise that SD is not like other developers who have an infinite amount of people to throw at oncoming issues as soon as they arise. I'm stuck living with Campaign and Free-Play for now, I feel kind of ripped off but I know SD will not let me down and will hopefully get MV fixed.

Then again I am also someone who plays STALKER and has no problems with the occasional crash so maybe I am just use to bugs and dissapointments by now -.-.

A cruel irony, considering that the situatiion was caused by people playing pirated copies of Demigod.

AArgh!! Pirates hijacked me meta, raped and pillaged me characters and now terrorizing ye ole Galactic Map. [e digicons]O[/e]

I tend to abide by certain rules when pirating. Sort of a code me and a few Forums buddies follow that a friends came up with....

1.) No games younger than 6 months.
2.) You are pirating to test the game.
3.) If you like the game you buy it, unless you are waiting for a deal or something. (You cheap bastards)
4.) No going online. (Not only is this a way to get caught but it is also an insult to all of us who actually bought the game your poor pricks)
5.) All these rules apply for EVERY game, except Spore, go ahead and beat that thing to death (Angry Face).

Of course pirating is still wrong (So say some people), but I like to think I am not as bad as other pirates considering I have actually bought about 75% of the games I have pirated and tried out. I am tight on money, and I do not want to waste money on something I might not like or might not even work on my computer.

Yep, it's back! I think Stardock should reward Pat with a paid vacation in the Carribean.

April 26, 2009 10:12:20

Thx, Kryo...Just posted a game and it took...looks like we're good to go!

April 26, 2009 11:01:59

Well done guys.

Kudos to all involved. If pat was to drop a line in this thread i'm sure his Karma count would increase dramatically.
