Metaverse down?

By Posted April 15, 2009 00:31:23

I started a metaverse game tonight about 7:15 CST, and finished and posted it about an hour later.  Then I've been trying to start another one since about 9pm.  I keep getting some error that the metaverse is returning some unknown reply (I forget the exact wording).

Any one else seeing this?

A bunch of servers had to be restarted yesterday due to Demigod issues. I'd bet the meta stuff just didn't come back from it. I'll see if someone can spare a minute to check on it tomorrow.

I tried to submit a game. It says I do not have an internet connection. I must be doing this by ESP.

Three days, it's starting to get ridiculous.  Especially since they know about it

One thing you will find from the outset that Stardock are great at giving us updates for the game (well they have been in the past) but they do tend to suck at getting web issues rectified. Be it a site issue or a MV one it can take days for them to rectify it.

I was just reading the Demi#*$& forum, and it appears that their servers just self-destructed. All of them. I'm starting to wonder whether our server really had an "accident", or whether someone at stardock just "borrowed" it for DebacleGod.

Sign of things to come folks.

You have to look a long way down Stardock's list of Importance to find GC2 .

And wait till Elemental is released........

Sorry about this guys, with all the trouble we've been dealing with this week (pirates hammering the servers that handle a lot of the log-in stuff, for one) nobody's been able to get a stray moment to check on the meta. I'm sending Pat an email right now to remind him so he will hopefully be sure to look at it as soon as he can.

Could be Neilo, but only time will tell.

Stardock, we've got a lot of people wanting to play on the Metaverse, not just people who have posted here.  Please get the MV fixed soon so that we can all resume playing this excellent game.  You have a devoted fan/customer-base in the people that play GC2.

Edit: Thanks for the info Kryo, but I do think this should be resolved sooner than later, as its already been a few days.  Hopefully it will be an easy fix.

That's a little bit rough don't you think? Like anyone here, I do want the metaverse back up, especially seeing as I've just gotten back into the game again, however that's just bad timing on my behalf. Anyway, I believe Stardock were going to have another update for Gal Civ II in the works, so I can't see support dwindling too much. Sure, it is taking a while I guess to rectify this problem, however with Demigod out, and the pounding it has had with regards to Stardock's servers, then it is fair to say that the metaverse isn't a major priority, while paying customers for a new game struggle to connect and play a multiplayer only game. After all, the company does have to consider Demigod first, as it is the game which will help them turn a decent profit, based on reviews and player experience etc.

Edit: Eep, and Kryo managed to provide an update.

I think he's showing admirable restraint. I guess I should explain why some of us are taking a seemingly harsh approach here. First, I must commend Kryo for taking the time to reply. Kryo, none of this is directed at you, personally.

OK, down to business. ToA was never completed as a fully functional product. Stardock, in my opinion, had no business diverting it's resources to another game until this one was repaired to a reasonable state of useability. They certainly had no business releasing Ultimate Edition to retail in such a state. This indicates that stardock either has no concept of Quality Control, or does not take sufficient pride in their work. In either event, Neilo is almost certainly correct. Once stardock starts the next game, history indicates that both GC2 and Demiigod customers will be left with games that do not function correctly.

This entire situation has been brewing for about two years, since the ToA Beta days. I started to see signs of poor management then, and it has only gotten worse since. In addition, I feel that we GC2 players MADE stardock. Therefore, stardock owes us an eternal debt and should always service our needs before those of all others. I say that jokingly, but there is actually some truth to it.

Good points, Snark.

I have loved Stardock in the past and have supported Impulse whenever I can, but if we are really to choose Impulse over Steam, Direct2Drive, and Gamersgate, we need to be assured that Stardock sees things LONG TERM.  It's tough to justify buying a game that looks like it won't be supported years down the line.

Demigod is a good example.  Should we buy a game that is effectually online-multiplayer only if we don't have assurances that it will be available in the future?

Kryo,

Thanks for the reply.  I know it's a difficult situation, and not really under your control, so no bad vibes from me, here.  Just let the big kahunas in charge know that we're waiting for 3.5 days now, and it shouldn't be that time consuming to just re-boot a server.

On a related note, when I started playing GC2 again in February, there was another of these multi-day MV downtimes.  This downtime has given me the idea to start a few gigantic-type games, and just save them for when the next downtime occurs.  This way I'll have an alternantive, and don't have to keep checking if MV is back up
