PM Limit changes for no apparent reason

By Posted March 5, 2009 23:27:43

The PM limit on various of SD's forum sites changes between the normal 100 limit and 50. I've never seen this occur on Galciv2 or on Joe User but I have seen this happen on the Demigod, Elemental and Stardock sites.

Mine can't even add.

You have 83 messages stored out of 100 allowed.

Inbox: 26

Sent: 6

Trash: 0

Mine, either!

I have 17 in my inbox and 2 'sent'.... yet I am supposed to have used 40 of my 100 limit. [e digicons]8(|[/e]

Mine told me I couldn't use it 58 out of 100 allowed messages (that changes from 50 to 100 randomly)

Inbox: 14

Sent 5

Trash 0

*sigh.

I let the web team know about it so that they can throw it in their queue.

The PM system has always done this, it holds the count for some PM's that have been deleted for whatever reason. If you do not need any of them any more click Empty All Folders, this will clear everything and reset count to 0 out of 100.

I think it's the switching from the 100 limit to 50 that is the real issue.  Another report:  http://forums.joeuser.com/342316

The addition thing has been a long standing issue.

Yeah the 50/100 thing is the bigger point. I noticed this quite some time ago but thought it was simply a site to site difference in PM limit. But landisaurus' post implied that the limit switched from 50 to 100 and back randomly on a single site and when I rechecked the results that I got when I made my first reply to his post it turned out I got different results even just a few minutes later.

The addition thing has been around forever but I think it's more of a subtraction thing. It's not something that happens all the time but I *think* if you "delete forever" directly out of your Inbox that always works reliably but if you "move to trash" and then delete, the message gets deleted but sometimes your message count isn't decremented. But as has been noted if you're willing to "empty all folders" then you do get reset back to zero.

I don't think anyone would complain if this somehow got fixed as well.

I blame andrew_
I haven't seen Andrew in awhile. It seemed he didn't particularly care too much for interacting with the public but things did get fixed pretty quickly once he got involved.

I haven't seen Andrew in awhile.

That's because he hasn't worked here is a few months.  He somehow broke free and escaped.  We have since tightened our security.

Just one of the risks of leaving.

That's probably because you made him listen to our complaints.

Too bad though. Hopefully he left with no ill will and is happy wherever he ended up.

I never have that many PM's that I have to worry about the limit.  I did realize awhile ago though if you clean out your PM's you need to also click on the (empty all folders) selection/option, it is somehow connected to the total PM's.

If you need to save a PM or the information it has for a long time copy it and save it as a text file.  Just a thought.  [e digicons]:sun:[/e]

Yeah, me too... it seems I got 21 love letters that I can't see. [e digicons][/e] [e digicons][/e]

And when the allowable limit mysteriously resets from 100 to 50, I got more love letters I can't read than I can.

Worse still, I don't know who sent 'em... so I can't send any [e digicons]<3[/e] back.  [e digicons]O:)[/e]

31 + 5 = 50 apparently

March 6, 2009 21:38:54

Mine has never added up....not since day One.

My theory is the numbers are a random selection....and they have no relevance to mathematical equation.

Today's word is 'arbitrary' and it is brought to you by the letters 'P' and 'M' ...

I think you missed the letter S.... shouldn't it be there if arbitrary is involved. [e digicons]:-"[/e] [e digicons][/e] [e digicons]*_*[/e]

The issue should be fixed.  All users should now have a limit of 100 PMs.  Thank you for your patience.

47 + 0 = You have 100 messages stored out of 100 allowed.
