IconPackager 4.2 Released

By Posted February 24, 2009 15:32:33

Stardock is excited to announce the release of IconPackager 4.2 today.  IconPackager is an application that lets Windows users change the default icons to the thousands available for download.  IconPackager does this by applying “sets” of icon packs that can contain up to hundreds of icons.  IP also integrates into the Windows shell letting a user change specific icons by selecting the option through the right-click menu.

IconPackager on Windows Vista also takes advantage of the Live Folders feature, and can even apply a specific Live Folder icon set from the chosen icon pack.  Other features include the ability to recolor icon sets on the fly, and automatically upscale to larger size icons (Vista).

This update brings several updates and fixes, including:

  • Fix for x64 shell extension icon issue.
  • Live folder icons will prompt to restart explorer so they apply correctly.
  • Apply time should be quicker.
  • Language fixes for x64.

IconPackager is part of the Object Desktop suite of desktop enhancement, or available as a stand-alone application for Windows XP and Vista.

Live folder icons will prompt to restart explorer so they apply correctly.

Wonder if this is why my explorer crashed often these past few weeks.

Still having some issues with x64 and x86 apps not changing the majority of the icons. More have changed but for the most part they still remain Aero.

Save As Dialog from the x86 IE7 is an example (all x86 apps show this):

IE7 Favorites in x86 (notice the folders):

Here is how they look in IE7 x64:

Save As:

Favorites (notice the folders being the proper icons):

..but I'm not having issues with blank icons, I'm having issues with IP not changing the default icons in x86 based apps.

Hey thanks for the linky, Zubaz. I upgraded to Vista 64 over the weekend and got an icon set, and most of my icons turned blank. Going to try that fix when I get home.

..Well I went to run it anyway and the 64-bit one gave me an error:

Seems to be looking for shellext when it should be looking for shellext64. Also that bat file is for unregistering the DLL file, not a very wise idea considering I've got IP installed... [e digicons]o_O[/e]

Also under 64-bit there is no option to apply settings when you change them, I'm not able to have IP skin Quick Launch & Control Panel icons. I should also note that applying packages is well over twice as long now. While I'm not really bothered by the wait time it does say that the applying time should be quicker.

Tell me updating no longer resets/erases all the shell icon settings.  Please. [e digicons]:\[/e]

Wizard1956 you might try clicking on the Blue Ord, click Preferences and then Reset Data.  That usually works.[e digicons]:sun:[/e]

Tell me updating no longer resets/erases all the shell icon settings.  Please.

Still does, filetypes such as DLL still remain the blank icon, and the above bat file doesn't even work for me (see the image in my previous post). This is exactly why I make registry backups before using IP.

Wouldn't try it unless you like formatting. Seriously though it's not even in RC stage yet. I don't get why people can't understand that concept.
