Impulse updates are never simple...

By Posted January 30, 2009 21:43:17

I updated Entrenchment without thinking, and so didn't uninstall Entrenchment and Sins and update Sins to 1.13 first and then redownload Entrenchment.

So now after toggling the show prerelease versions Sins is showing updateable separately from Entrenchment but won't uninstall (and neither will Entrenchment, which produced an XML error-2,28 if memory serves, prior to the next issue) because it wants Impulse to update first.

So Impulse decides it needs me to download the full installer to update it.  I do so.  I open the installer up and I get this shit:

Which then proceeds to tell me:

So I go to the Control Panel to uninstall Impulse, and it says there may have been an error and do I want to remove it from the list, and I say what the hell, sure.

But the shortcut still works and it's still in the program directory and it won't let me delete the Impulse program folder because it thinks something is using it.

*bangs head against wall*

Similar problems have happened with Impulse refusing to uninstall.  Have you tried Revo?

It has worked for many of us in cases like this.  I do the advanced uninstall in Revo.

I tried to update Entrenchment last night to 1.13, left it on, and this morning I still have version 0.92 indicated and now no updates are available to download... Furthermore, some of my installed games were not showing up as well. I figure that had to do with connectivity problems to the server last night. I had to hit the 'reset data' button to have my full list of installed software back. As for entrenchment, I tried to re-activate it in the hope I could get the update tab showing up, but no such luck.

The funny thing is that the initial installation of Entrenchment superseded the original Sins icon/configuration, and I then I had this indication of 299Mb installed that has nothing to do with the total amount of space for the whole game. I didn't gave a fig about that since I was still able to play it but that's not good programming IMO. As an example, I have the original Titan Quest game, plus the expansion as clear separate entities on Impulse. Sins and the expansions should work in a similar way as well.

We shouldn't have to rely on third-party software to do that...

Great... just realized that Sins is unplayable right now. I had to alt-tab my way out from a black screen and a frozen cursor and then noticed a mini-dump indication. Right after that, I tried to uninstall Entrenchment and immediately got "There is an error in XML document (28,8)".

I taken I'm on the same boat as Sole Soul's. Yay...

EDIT: Wow, Impulse can be quite delicate... I got Sins working the old-fashioned way. Deleted the install folder, cleared the registry and restored from archive the original Sins ONLY. I would imagine Entrenchment beta to be buggy ONLY in-game. I will refrain from installing Entrenchment again until it becomes HASSLE FREE...

Well, thanks to Motti, I did manage to get Impulse working again, as well as Sins (or rather, Entrenchment), but now Impulse refuses to archive Entrenchment-my guess is because it can't figure out where the hell Sins is at, since they're "combined" now.  I click archive and...nothing happens.

And...looks like I can't fix this.  Uninstalled, turned off show prerelease versions, and Entrenchment, which is still in beta, still shows up.  So I can't download/install Sins and Entrenchment separately now, apparently.  Which means, for some reason, I can't archive either one of them.

Sole, your registry regarding Sins is messed-up right now and short from a full cleanup you'll probably have to wait for a patch in order to fix it.

Contact support so that they'll get their brains working on this one.

It's strange the way they're handling Sins though. A beta shouldn't be showing up as the real deal, especially one that messes up with the install/remove process such as this one. Someone needs to re-examine how the micro-expansions are getting delivered on Impulse.

No, Revo got all the registry entries-of that I'm fairly positive.

Amen.
