Small problem with Impulse vs my Antivirus/Firewall

By Posted September 29, 2008 21:23:29

It is a small annoyance and is something to be resolved by my antivirus publisher. I have sent in for support and haven't recived a response yet(been a while to). So while I wait I was currious if anyone has experienced a problem like this before, if so I would be thankfull of some feedback please.

I use Webroot Spysweeper with antivirus and firewall. (v 5.8.1 build 55)

It just seems like Webroot can't remember to allow Impulse at start up even after I went and added it to my trusted publisher list and to allow trafic with my firewall. Its like it has the memory of a goldfish. It works fine, but only for a while then I'm back to having to allow Impulse all over again. Without fail every day its a small routine I have to go through. It doesn't cripple my ability to use Impulse, I just want it to stop.

Again, this isn't a problem I expect stardock to solve. This is something I was currious to know if somebody else in the community has experienced, if so how long did you wait/what sollution did you get?

since you are able to get in and adjust the setting to allow Impulse to work and it does seem to work for awhile, could updates to your antivirus/firewall be wiping out your setting each time?  Something to check.

Hmmm didn't think about that. I'll keep an eye out for that.

Like I said it's something to check.  I use the free version of Zone Alarm Firewall, after about the third update I realized that I could save all my setting.  I got tired of doing just exactly what you are having to do.

Hey thanks man, it was doing almost exactly like you described it. problem fixed and I'm good to go.

And some karma for you.

Might need to be logged in with Admin rights to get the settings to stick, hard to tell.

Related sidenote: There was a post awhile back, now well-buried in this forum, from a guy who was running just the anti-spyware SpySweeper package and he found that SpySweeper was hogging his cpu while Impulse was running.  The anti-spyware part of it does do that sometimes when it is worrying about something, so things might run better for you while in Impulse if you can disable just that piece of it.

edit- Sheesh, left the post up too long again.  Glad you got it fixed.  The spyware tip might be good for you though.

Thank you anyways

I appreciate you for trying to help.

I'll keep what you said about Spysweeper in mind. But good news is that the more recent versions come with a "game mode" you can toggle off and on when you are online gaming.

September 30, 2008 18:01:46

Ya he mentioned the game mode but I don't think it helped on this particular issue.  Anyway you can play with it and see what you think.

And after I made my post I realized I should have been clear about something for anyone else stumbling across this thread:  No, Spysweeper doesn't actually find anything or do anything productive regarding Impulse, I'm not implying that Impulse is in any way spyware. Spysweeper just worries about it without results, probably due to the nature of Impulse.
