Impuse Complaint Sin's Of A Solar Empire

By Posted June 10, 2008 23:07:56

I have found patching my digital copy of sin's to be a bit of a pain becuase I always have to use some sort of stardock product and can't just download a .exe. I was hoping Impulse would solve my problem but you can't point it to your Sin's Of A Solar Empire directory. I had to redownload the product and then even though I installed impulse on my D drive, it decided my c:\program files was the best spot for the game.

Common guys! If Impulse is on drive D shouldn't the game install in that directory? Or at least let me choose a path?

So far very dissapointing.

You can change the install directory through the settings menu. Click on the Stardock Logo in the top left then click on preferences. You can even denote what section of software goes where. In this case you would want to click on MyGames then choose your D drive.

Yes the ability is there, but the complaint is about the default behavior...

You should be asking to pick a directory by default, and then people can go in and choose default directories and turn off the prompting for a directory if they choose.

Or rather as it was pointed out to me on IRC, to make things as "seamless" as possible, the default should be to install it in a folder under the main Impulse installation directory, as that is a logical assumption to make.

I have noted this complaint/request to the higher ups. I think I read something like this earlier in the forums so it might be either underway or considered already.

I would also like an "Impulse Free" install. Tough hopefully after installing SoaSE Impulse can be removed.

An Impulse free install will not be possible at this time. As I have said in other threads through Impluse is a tool for your use and not a required function of any of the games you have purchased. Feel free to uninstall the product after you have your full game. However updates and expansions are made available through this same system. I can assure you that Impulse isn't hurting anything until you might need it again.

This dosen't even mention the match making tools for online play that are currently in the works for Impulse as well.

This was NOT at all intuitive, I happened on it by accident. Maybe settings would be better located or duplicated under the help icon.

I second that motion. I stumbled upon them as well, and luckily BEFORE I started downloading anything.
