Issue 1 -

I was able to successfully uninstall and reinstall .net 2.0 and SP1, but that did not fix the problem I have on my Fujitsu N3510 notebook with Impulse crashing at the conclusion of the install & on any attempt to launch it.

Issue 2 -

Before updating to SKS 6.09a[b].028 I tried to manually archive my current version of SKS6 (6.00.006) using Impulse on my Vostro 200 desktop: after right-clicking on SKS6 in the Updates tab and selecting 'Archive application,' the lower right buttons changed from Run & Update to Cancel & a greyed out Pause button. Nothing else seemed to happen (Impulse was using 0% CPU) and after about 10 minutes I just closed Impulse. I was then able to autoarchive & update SKS6 without a hitch using SDC.

The absence of some sort of progress indicator in Impulse when archiving is a weakness here, not to mention the absence of archiving . It would also be helpful to know where Impulse is supposed to place its archives so you could verify them (I mean once archiving actually works) - can't find any such folder in D&S\All Users or PF\Stardock\Impulse. Simplification is great as long as it doesn't compromise function & usability.

Thanks

Just had a new problem on my other Fujitsu notebook.

I've been using Impulse on it without problems for awhile now and have successfully updated multiple apps using it (can't find any of the 'auto'-archives, but that's another issue).

Today I launched Impulse and it's own autoupdate failed, giving the following message:

"Impulse was not updated, self-updater not found in downloaded.

Please try again later."

@Daiwa, at least here the archives currently ends up in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\backup" with no way to change it.

No problems making the archive here (and they seems valid), but I've had no luck
restoring them.

The absence of some sort of progress indicator in Impulse

That's my only complaint.Impulse has been working well for me. SDC didn't and was "cluttered" and confusing, imo. My question is,how do I uninstall SDC when the time comes? It's redundant now. Unlike Impulse,it's not listed in my programs.P.S. A background to match the Impulse Dream would be awesome(beats green, lol)

"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\backup"

No such folder here on either rig running Impulse.

Impulse > Preferences = Error:

Darken,

Thanks for reporting this.  This only happens on 64-bit.  We are working on fixing it now.

May 28, 2008 15:39:36

Just had a new problem on my other Fujitsu notebook.I've been using Impulse on it without problems for awhile now and have successfully updated multiple apps using it (can't find any of the 'auto'-archives, but that's another issue).Today I launched Impulse and it's own autoupdate failed, giving the following message:"Impulse was not updated, self-updater not found in downloaded. Please try again later."

You may have to uninstall and reinstall to fix that issue.  What version of Impulse are you running?

May 28, 2008 22:35:52

May 28, 2008 22:41:17
There is a new build to correct this issue as a whole going out tonight or tomorrow morning. Please check for the update by tomorrow morning and see if this error continues for you. Support will be on hand to funnel info through right away.

Zargon -

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I've done that several times already, even re-installed Windows Installer & .net 2.0 SP1 with no love. The file version of Impulse_setup_full.exe is 1.0.0.0 - have no clue what the application version# is as I've never been able to get it installed. Thanks again.

Impulse V 2.90.166 here on XP SP3 french

Weird things in preferences, after having set Archive File Location to E:\StardockImpulse\Backup & Temporarly Files location to E:\StardockImpulse\Temporarly ...

- For applications which are notofied as "update avaible" , "Archive Application" donwload & Archive in the right path without any trouble or strange thing

- For applications which are notified as "installed" there's a popup telling me there's already that file archived and ask me if i want to overwrite (in fact this file is not already in E:\StardockImpulse\Backup but in the old path in C:\... ) I click yes and it download and archive in E:\ path

- For applications which are notified as "avaible" the option is no more "Archive Application" but "Download and Archive" which is done but file is stored in old path in C:\...

Something is missmatching i think
May 29, 2008 13:49:31
It's nice to see you trying to give a way to change the archive path in the new version (2.90.166)..

However, clicking Change at the right of "archive file location" changes the
"Temporary files location" field, not the archive location.
Same does the Change button at the right of "Temporary file location".
Not to mention both opens a dialog saying "Choose a new Impulse Temporary Files folder".

There still is no way to change the archive location that works, it still reads
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\backup", and it isn't possible to manually enter a path.

@neophil78, how did you manage to change the "archive file location"? It's not possible
here as it too maps to the "temporary file location".
May 29, 2008 14:02:10
Btw, "Restore archive" still isn't working.. It jumps to the "Downloads & Installs" page,
then does nothing.
I thought it might be something wrong with the .impulse archive the previous version
created, so I did a new "Download and Archive", but still no success with that archive.

Another thing thats annoying is after you've successfully finished downloading (and archiving) a product the rightclick menu contains on both the "My Desktop" and "Downloads and Installs):

Resume Download
Cancel Download
More Info
View History
-
Hide Application
-
Refresh

No longer any sign of "Install" etc. A restart of Impulse is necessary to get them back.

While I'm at it, when a up to date (by version) is available in the archive folder, in addition to "Install", a menu entry could've been added to install from the archive (when restore has been implemented and no longer is a do nothing function).
May 29, 2008 14:58:57
@neophil78, how did you manage to change the "archive file location"?

Exactly the way as told just upon

For me Change at the right of "archive file location" really changes the "archive file location" and Change "Temporary file location" does really change "Temporary file location"

That's after, as i explained, that weird things are happening
May 29, 2008 15:16:52
@neophil, lucky you, I can't even get that far as the funny things starts a step earlier (with the Change button).
May 29, 2008 17:40:40
haerdalis, do you have SDC already installed on PC ? I'm asking because in SDC, the 2 folders for Backups and Temporarly files in default settings are inverted as you get with Impulse ... (an historic bug off SDC i suppose ...)
BTW, the update from today of Impulse ( V 2.90.166 ) and for me, automatically replaced the ones set with the previous version with the REAL Backup path and Temporarly path that i defined with SDC (though after correction of the default ones    )

Well it's just for now about folders path, as you could see above in #240, that they are wrongly used by Impulse
May 29, 2008 18:56:46
@neophil78, no I do not. I cleaned out everything stardock when I transferred to
Impulse.

It seems like I too can change the "archive file location", but I wonder if this procedure is intended or not, it's definately strange.
- First click "Change" at the right side of the "archive file location", and select
the "temporary files folder".
- The text in the "temporary files folder" then changes to the new path.
- Restart Impulse and the new path is shown in "archive file location".

However, if you then do a download and archive, that archive ends up in the default location.

One additional annoyance..
You can't "download and archive" a installed application, even if you wanted to backup
a pure installation archive.
However, you have the option to archive the installed application itself (which might or might not be working).
May 29, 2008 21:14:15
haerdalis, read better my post #240

Impulse keeps running now with 2 "archive file location" path:

- one is the old "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Impulse\Backup"
- and one is the newest path you define
May 29, 2008 23:02:34
There is a fix on the test server currently. As soon as we are finished with the update it will be made public asap. Just wanted to toss in an update in this thread.
