It's been in the works for better than a decade, so I'm pretty sure it's vaporware. Even if it weren't, they've siad it's going to be an MMO (presumably an MMOTBS) so it'll be worthless regardless.

Yeah, Ascendancy has been just as stuck as Duke Nukem had been, with less recognition Which is a shame, because, even with all the bugs and quirks, Ascendancy was an awesome game. Still playable too, on DosBox. Actually played it a couple years ago. Still fun

I just hope they don't destroy it like Microsoft destroyed Shadow Run. I sure hope someone repairs that damage. Otherwise, I'm stuck playing only the Sega Genesis version on my emulator. I enjoy it still, but, I would like a new version with an easier interface.

Can't believe what some people are doing to these timeless classics. Name does not make up for crap games.

Yes, Ascendancy!
I have said before in other threads how for me, every 4x based game I have played has been compared to Ascendancy and found lacking.

That is why I was so pleased to play Sins of a Solar Empire, it was just what I had been missing!

I used to love Ascendancy so much. It is still up on my cd rack at this very moment, even though I haven't played it in 7 years or more...

You know, I had never even heard of an Ascendancy 2, vapourware or no... Unfortunately however I would tend to agree with others in that whatever would be built around such a game, it would probably be seen as a 'crap' game by those of us who really liked the original. I don't see how it could be any other way really... it has been that long... paradigms have shifted... etc.

So, what was your favourite race in Ascendancy...
I used to love the Reptilian race that had something like a 50% reduction in research duration? (Can't remember their race name now).
The race I didn't like playing against was the race that had a special ability to steal research technology from other races... Every time they were inserted into a random game had me paranoid they were stealing my precious research (which I know they were... ADMIT IT!). LOL.

Ahh, good times... Never liked the ship cap based on planets owned though. Made the last two thirds of the game very one-sided, and not much of a challenge...

Ahh, nostalgia. I might have to get DosBox up and running, as Solaron mentioned.

Ok, here is some news, sort of. The devs were working on one game and once completed they would bein work on A2 according to their website. The website had not changed in years and I made several attempts to call and email them but was unable to reach anyone. At least the email was not returned undeliverable and the phone number not disconnected so I guess that was a good sign. Then a little over a month ago the website had a major upgrade and while nothing definate this is a good sign. WWW Link

The 6 legged reptilian scientists were the Chamachies, and their special ability is Instant Discovery, ie, any tech they were researching currently, could be completely finished, regardless of time left. Great for those really long technologies.

Being a Research lover myself (love tech rushes and such), the Chamachies were my favorite race, although I also liked playing the Hanshaks, who could communicate with all the aliens from the beginning, and the Balifids, who were awesome diplomats who could force peace treaties.

As for the race you hated playing against, they were the Dubtaks, who could steal all technology if owned by at least 2 races. And it really is all. A single use of their special ability could allow for an instant discovery of a dozen technologies. Theoretically, if you played the Dubtaks, and isolated yourself, ignoring your own tech until 2 other races finished everything, you could instantly have every technology, then you could freshly expand on every world without having to destroy structures to build more efficient ones, or removing tubes so you can terraform the black squares. I've done something similar to that, just teching up with a couple planets and no ships, waiting, then using the ability to get many nice techs.

What sucks is i cant find my ascendancy cd so i cant play. yea the dubtaks sucked to play against but they were fun to play. The AI sucked but yet it was still really fun. and for some reason i still dont think sins is as fun as ascendancy.
