First off, I couldn't have done this without the inspiration of the Metaverse League and Wyndstar in particular. Kudos to the master!

Now to the matter at hand.

I finally did it. A year zero win! Granted, it was only against 1 AI and on challenging (my current level) but I'm certain that 'tough' wouldn't have been much harder. On the other hand, it was my first attempt at an 'all-labs' and 'lease instead of buy' approach, so I consider myself proud that I could do it at all.

For all of you, who like me thought that year zero wins are nigh impossible: Try it! Read the posts about it! It is difficult, requires constant micromanagement, but I found it incredibly rewarding to see that victory screen after 25 - 30 turns. Not the way I'd like to play constantly, but as a change of pace, it's a incredible challenge.

And of course, once you've accomplished your first 'Year Zero', post here and rejoice!

Attention new players!
Do not be frightened by these scores! Playing a ZYW is actually really easy, and getting a score close to 30000 points takes just a few tries. These games are usually finished in less than 20 minutes, so have at it. Try the tiny ZYWs first, I find them easier and you might get the unique chance to beat players like neilo or Wyndstar.

Thats my opinion Dys, and I'd like to see his acomplishment. I think he deserves to be recognized for a great game. As to whether pndrev would want to put it in the rankings thats mainly up to him, but in my mind, Random would be the leader.

Last night tried again and actually played out on the 22nd - rushed a bunch of stock markets and discos, landed more colony shipd, etc. Had no effect whatsoever.

Thought I might set a new personal best with this one, but not quite. Second time over 120k though.

Thx, Jacklv. I meant half-assed in the sense that its just a 'victory' screen...it doesn't prove anything. That could be a 10 yr win for all anybody knows.

My Favorite Race is very wrong? What is 12 anyway? It should be Custom. Anyone got any ideas?

12 refers to the 'slot' occupied by custom races, and in the internal xml files... if I remember correctly, that is. There's a number of little nuances/mistakes like that in the metaverse. For example, you may have noticed it refers to the Altarians as Arceans and vice versa.

I knew this was going to be a good game when I saw the setup...

Here is how I like my planets to look like when I start a game

Planet Ophelia VII

That's a great planet. Two 700%, one 300% and two 100% Tech tiles gives you the potential to take the high score. If you're going for ZYW, the 100% morale bonus tile will come in handy later, too.

You'll need to go to extremes when playing it.

Nice planet! I think in the game where I got 127k I had 3 libraries and some other bonus tiles too, And as I said above, early cash anomalies were key also.

I goofed it up, I only got 89,600 points. [e digicons]X([/e] I forgot to save at the right moments so I could go back and try again.

Well, I will just keep trying until I get right.

I´d like to join here - first time I beat the 20k mark on a tiny:

was on DL, no spore be used but lots of $$$ anomalies, indeed.

and maybe we can start another challenge (as it seems nobody wants to try beat Motti's achievement...)

here´s an obnoxious way to win:

is a somehow meticulous game-play, ended somewhere ~35 round, still had ~15.000bc in $$$, but there where no more tiles left to built spheres....
