Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

By Posted January 31, 2008 13:56:59

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

2008-01-31_0059[1]

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

I preorder the retail version at EB, if i want to order the digital content of the collector's edition, can i have it shipped to my place. Also, i don't have dedicated access to the internet, hence i can't get the patches/updates for either sins and Galciv 2. Is there any way i can get these updates and patches. Thanks.

I have a small question, is it possible to order the "Collectors Edition" DVD box as an addition to a digital download only pre-order? (i used TotalGaming Tokens to pre-order)

I might just do that to get the game on a physical medium aswell as on my computer.

I purchased this game back in Beta 2 when it was $44.95

I only purchased the digital version , because I did not know the boxed version was a CE and neither anyone else actually.

How much do I now pay to change my order to the CE with delivery. Ps- im UK

Same boat with the download, didn't know there'd be a CE back then

Anyhoo, $5 + shipping to upgrade.

Sounds quite reasonable, so probably around $25-$30 for me then. (netherlands)

Muhahaha, god blessed me
Back then at Beta 1 Ive decided to buy the Boxed Version from Stardock and that was the best decision I could have done back then.

Into the dust you unworthy scum Muahahahahahahaha

Will the reorganized hotkey cards and stuff be available free to download for people buying retail boxed copies? I'm guessing some of that documentation stuff will be a little outdated.

Well, I thought I read than in the original documentation the hotkeys were not organized by function and have just recently been changed to do so. I'm guessing the actual retail manuals and everything has been done already, so therefore wouldn't have the better organized list. I guess it's not the end of the world, but it would be nice to have.

We don't usually send out CDs with patches or other content...

The hotkeys aren't in the manual at all, but the hotkey card is what we used to organize the list in the first place, so it should be fine.

Sweet! A cool WC theme. It is all good in the land of Sinners! Praise the Lord!!

Um... if thats a win-customize theme, how do those of us who don't have win-customize use it?
January 31, 2008 20:35:50
It comes with limited versions of our skinning/theming software which allow the use of that particular theme.

excellent, thank you very much.

Cool -- I trust it works for uninstall / restore to previous settings as well, when I get tired of it?

Now that is cool cross pollination to say the least. Leverage your resources I always say. It works out in everyones best interest.

I'm just wondering, does this go for TGN pre-orders as well?

@Fobok - yes it does.

Question about the Collectors Edition, is it available in Sweden at Ebgames/Gamestop?
If so when? They do not have in their release list last time I checked.

Frogboy, you said that the Download only Collector's edition was $44.95. However, I bought Sins of a Solar Empire with the CD for $44.95(without $5 S/H) in July of 07, before there was such a Collector's Editions. From what has been indicated, the "Direct Buy" from this site, using the preorder, gives the Collector's Edition.

So, even though I ordered before such distinctions came about, and I ordered the CD & Download directly from Stardock, it does mean I got the Collector's Edition, correct? I was just fortunate enough to preorder earlier than most, and thus get a slightly lower price?

I Purchased this in Mid December:
Sins of a Solar Empire (CD Preorder)
$49.95 Quantity: 1
from the stardock website with $5 s&h to canada
This does not jive with what has been said here so what is the deal? what am I getting? Am I in fact pay the same amount as the collectors edition while recieving less stuff or will the charge of s&h be jacked up to the full $20 when the order goes though on monday
February 3, 2008 05:11:23
nevermind, like an idiot I did not read all the pertinant threads and have since answered my own question, so for clarity's sake one Yarlen at Stardock said that the price difference was "a benefit for having been with us so long during the process"
Thank You

Collectors edition is available direct from stardock. Fry's has "stolen" a couple of copies, but no other retailers will have it.

More specifically, no stores in Europe will have the game at retail unless they're importing it, unfortunately. No publishers there were willing to take the game on, but we'll keep trying.
