Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

By Posted November 15, 2007 21:29:55

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be...

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for another 80 octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 21 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 43.4% of this galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for almost 16 months running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

Welcome zerodexter. If you want, you could sign up for the MVL at WWW Link

Getting tips and tricks from fellow team members (and a certain empire patriarch) has been an eye-opener for me. In addition the different settings for each MVL round "force" me to change style every now and then, thus exploring the entire width of the game.

You say your first metaverse games have low scores, but you already submitted one at crippling difficulty, where surviving alone is quite an achievement!

Oh, and there have been such detailed, step-by-step descriptions with screenshots (here they're often called "AAR"), though I can't remember their exact location from the top of my head... You might browse through the search results for AAR if no one else can remember the links.

thanks I already signed up

just had my third try on masochistic but failed. maybe I shouldn't play with random races, the Yor don't seem to like alliances

thanks for the hint regarding AARs. I did find some but they seemed rather outdated and didn't involve any discussions - after all, they're _after_ action reports, so not quite what I'm looking for. what I mean is a progressive game where every few rounds the current state of the game is posted and anyone who's interested can discuss on what actions should be taken next - the best recommendations are then played out for a few turns, posting afterwards what happened and the new state of the game. kinda like a community game where everyone gives input while the game is being played. like the ALC (all leaders challenge) series for civ4, this could be done for every race and with different settings, effectively compiling a collection of example games with (hopefully) lots of in-depth analysis and info for newer players (like me )

if this hasn't yet been done for gc2, I might start one (although I've never done such a game myself, only read lots of them)

here's a sample if anyone's interested: WWW Link

we just good friends or acwententses i depends on the person

I'm sure Seth has no freinds here and probaly will never have any. Fact is that he is annoying and rude, even in real life. Trust me, I live with him.
Back to the topic, what empire is the Kzintis' arch rival.

just wanted to let you know that I've posted the game-in-progress idea on the AAR subforum: WWW Link

feel free to post your opinion there on whether you like the idea or not

What to do with captured Kzin soldiers???? It's an age old question.

Do you eat them? Their mortal souls are never villainous enough for the taste of a Tyrannt.
Do you keep them as slaves? The Kzin do make rather good domesticated pets but are rather lazy.

I know..you use them as ammunition to hurl at your enemies!!

The taunts had died down...just thought i'd liven thinigs up a bit..not that penguingate is behind us!

Very interesting idea ZD, I'll take a closer look later on today.  Work interferes with gaming related activities too often!

Thanks for the re-welcome, KP. I had to do some rearranging of my characters and since Raiju was in my Kzinti account, I figured it just made sense to make him a member.

Raiju, a demon-cat beast, will become my default character in this empire as I bring him back up into the top 25.

LOL @ Penguin-gate

I completely support that line of reasoning. For those of you who dont know, Solembum is Mottikhan...he is legion!

In my current swindle-game, I think I'll surpass my record of 508k. (this is on a huge all-abundant map) The last time I checked my score was Aug 1 of year 2, and it came in at 185k. I own all the planets except one, and have my military starbase array completed. After 4 or 5 more years I estimate the final score will end up being above 550k! Maybe even 600k if I get lucky with an economic boom.

A wise man (my grandfather) once said, "If penguins and polar bears lived together, than the penguins would eat the polar bears" He was a funny man.

Hey, KP! Did you see Extant Faora's post about giving a minor race some colonizers? What a great idea! It would solve the problem of the lack of colonies we talked about. It might be too late for my current Raiju game, since I already declared my first war and it was against the only minor I came across.

I hope to find another minor soon and try it out.
August 11, 2008 14:47:26
Hmmm...interesting idea. With the minors in my Swindle games, I've devouring them all in the first war-swindle. I like getting 17 free homeworlds (along with the other hundreds of planets) in one shot.

Definitely will check that post out. Thanks!

A great welcome to our newest members, RhetoricalSun, Don Basilio, ZeroDexter, and Seik0301!

Thanks for sending me an invitation!
I do not play much, so excuse me for a nubie question: how do you get money for the conquest victory? Significant part of my income comes from trade, so waging war costs dearly to me.

Hey Don Basilio.

One of the best ways to make sure you have enough money for waging war is to have a significant proportion of your planets dedicated to nothing more than producing income. Fill these economic powerhouses with econ buildings, and at least one farm and morale building. I always specialize every planet I have, devoting it either to tech, econ, or industry.

If its very early in the game though, let some of your planets lay fallow, and dont build anything on them at all until each one has a few billion people. This is a good way to measure if your economy can support the infrastructure.

Anomalies can also be pretty important early in the game for extra cash, so I play with them always at abundant.

If you like using trade, build lots of econ starbases with the trade-increasing modules on them. You can build them anywhere along the path where your traders are flying, so you could potentially have dozens along any one trade route, if you have the patience to build them!

If you have tech-trading on, you can also get nice cash boosts throughout the game by selling techs, to help keep you in the black.

where was that post?

Here is that thread Motti was talking about: WWW Link

It's reply #1.

Ahh, KP, thanks for the ideas! I was thinking about overpopulating Mars and dedicating it to generating income in my last game, but did not really get to it yet.
August 12, 2008 10:10:10
No problem. It would probably be better to select a higher PQ planet for an econ world, because you get a morale bonus with larger planets. You want a high population on econ worlds, but morale can become a problem as the population grows.

Just wanted to post with my shiny #1 empire medal again.

I kinda screwed up on my current game. I only have about 100 planets after the first war. I went back to see what I did and instead of picking abundant stars, I picked random.

This one might not be a very good test of my new strategy that we spoke of offline, KP. Hopefully, it'll still be enough to get me back into the top 25. It's not a slam-dunk though.

Ever since my run to 100 games with Loup, I think I have been burnt out of galciv. I got in the MVL game, but beyond that I've been occupied with other things.

My mission to figure out the espionage system went on hold with the comment that it'll be changed in 2.0. I haven't gotten to try and verify the victory costs in TA with respect to ascension and such.

There were tons of things around the house I had neglected to due this summer during that run though lol. Like a mower that needs repaired...~scratches head~

One hundred games in a short span of time is quite a lot. I'm not surprised you might feel the need for a break. There have been times when I got sort of tired of the game too, but often a new strategy would be discovered to renew my interest. At the moment I'm trying to perfect my Swindling abilities, which has been very interesting. I definitely have made leaps and bounds with those tactics.
