You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be...

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for another 80 octals of days since that auspicious day. We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 21 million more light years than the second most powerful empire. The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 43.4% of this galaxy. Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest. We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for almost 16 months running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

My spelling in posts has been horrid ever since they re-did the window. Firefox's spellcheck no longer works...and I was a straight C student in English. Also, I don't care about my spelling enough to copy/paste it in from Word or such.

That is annoying. I dont recall if its something they did on purpose or by accident, but I wish they would fix it!

Thank you for not caring. Copy pasta from word often breaks pages in IE. My work computer doesn't have Firefox, so I get stuck with topics I can't read.

notice the primary meaning in both entries. but etymologically speaking, you are correct...

damn it. i don't know if i made a linguistic spelling, grammar or diction error in that post, but i sure as heck committed a mistake with computational syntax, and i can't seem to find an edit button. yet again, stardock's unruly forum design strikes again. why does it copy over, and then hide, code from other websites? i can't even edit or delete that post... if it's annoying enough, i'll ask kryo if he can simply delete it.

at any rate, my main point (if you can't tell through the unintented formatting) was that the primary meaning of "diction" includes the written word, but etymologically it does refer specifically to speech.

In the future, always remember to copy/paste to notepad before putting it in here when you're copying from another webpage, as if you catch the start or end tags but not their matching partners, it'll break the page here.

i recall once reading about... someone's law. i forgot the name. it was a social law that essentially follows: if you correct someone's language on the internet, you're exceedingly likely to make a spelling, grammar or other language error in that very correction. for the life of me i can't remember the proper name attached to this social law.

I believe Willy applied Murphy's Law to grammar and got that. I'm not certain it was originally his idea, though, as it seems likely someone would have said something similar beforehand.

Mruphy's Law: Any post correcting another person's spelling or grammar will inevitably contain at least one spelling or grammatical error of it's own.

I in no way take credit for creating it, even though that particular paraphrase may be unique. Since I can't seem to find it, it's probably different from the first one I posted, as well

Yes, Mruphy's is intentional, as is the impoperly used apostrophe in it's.

That is because it is "Muphry's Law". Similarly, there is also "McKean's Law".

Muphry's Law states: "If you write anything criticizing editing or proofreading, there will be a fault of some kind in what you have written".

McKean's Law states: Any correction of the speech or writing of others will contain at least one grammatical, spelling, or typographical error.

i think McKean's Law was actually what i was thinking of. or should i say, of what i was thinking.

to be fair, some of us actually are dyslexic. that's why i usually refrain from correcting others' speech, but in the case that actually started this (my part of it anyway), i just couldn't resist pointing out that the self-proclaimed grammar sherrif had in fact corrected spelling.

This is debatable-it's possible (though not particularly likely) he really meant cued rather than queued, which would have actually been a grammatical error.

What would you categorize it as? Linguistics?

Then there's the image I embedded-being some other kind of sheriff than grammar wouldn't have made it nearly as fitting, and we all know that's what I was attempting to tie in to.
